Day 5: Phillies vs. White Sox

This is it: the final game of #calledup: Phillies vs. White Sox at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pa. The same storm that postponed the ‘Pigs game vs. the Bisons also played havoc with Friday’s Phillies vs. White Sox game. As a result they  played a double header, with our game being moved up to 3:05 and Friday’s game scheduled to start at 8:05.

It didn’t quite work out that way though. Our game started on time, but one of the isolated rain storms popping up around Philadelphia passed over Citizens Bank Park, causing a 30 minute rain relay. Our game then went to extra innings, with the Phillies ultimately losing 4-5 to the White Sox. The second game began at 8:45 p.m. and also went into extra innings, but the Phillies won that one, 2-1.

Our game was great, despite the Phillies blowing several opportunities to win the game. We arrived at the game and then spent an inning or two chowing down on Philly cheese steaks, drinking Troeg’s Dreamweaver, and watching the game. We took our seats — Section 148, overlooking centerfield — and immediately began chanting “Go ‘Pigs!” in support of Domonic Brown, Kevin Frandsen, Darin Ruf, and Jonathan Pettibone, all of whom have been called up from the Triple A IronPigs.

Shortly after sitting down we were interviewed by the Phillies organization about #calledup — why we were doing it, where we’d been, etc. After baking in the sun for a few innings we retreated to the shade, and in the 7th inning we were interviewed by Comcast — during the game! — about #calledup. John served as our spokeman, explaining our quest in a short, 3-4 minute spot.

The rain was light at first, but quickly intensified. The Phillies grounds crew wasted no time getting the tarp on the field, and we then spent the next 45 minutes waiting for the storm to pass through. After the storm we moved to the first base side of the field, near the equivalent of Section 105 at the IronPigs’ Coca Cola Park, and spent the rest of the game there.

It’s too bad the Phillies lost, but it was still a good game and a satisfactory conclusion to #calledup … for now. We still have an IronPigs game to make up, and we’re hoping to do that in August. Look for more #calledup updates then!

  1. Hey guys,

I stumbled across your website somehow one day, and I am now using this theme for my cycling teams website (www.zoomvideoracing.wordpress.com). We are actually in the process of transferring the website to our own domain (zoomvideoracing.com) which will happen shortly.

I was hoping to get a bit of help as I love how sleek your website is. Just wondering what size photo you have for your featured image, and what editor you used to edit it.

I have been using Pixlr.com, however for some reason, I can’t find a size picture which is consistent for all images such as yours.

If you can please get back to me, I would appreciate it.

    Dan

    • Hi Dan,

Sorry for the extreme delay, but I simply didn’t see your comment. The preferred image size for the header in Untitled is 1440×440 and I think pixlr.com is a great site to do the job. Good luck if you haven’t already figured this out.

      -Jason
